CDC Seminary Scholarship Policy

OVERVIEW

The CDC Ministerial Committee oversees the application and approval process for Seminary Scholarships.  These scholarships are funded by the Leadership Development Fund.  The number of scholarships available and the amounts provided are dependent on the balance in the Leadership Development Fund.

CONSIDERATIONS FOR APPLICATION

Scholarships are available to persons who are members of CDC congregations or who have been active in a CDC congregation for three years. Individuals reflective of groups who have been prohibited from ministry or discriminated against in the past are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited Master’s level seminary program or the Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary Doctor of Ministry in Leadership program.  A letter of recommendation from their pastor, mentor, or congregational lay leader is also required. An interview with the ministerial committee may be requested.  Priority is given to those enrolled in Master’s programs and to the programs listed in the last paragraph below.

Applications are submitted to the conference minister and are considered and awarded by the CDC Ministerial Committee. The application deadline is March 1 annually.

The Seminary Scholarship is not intended to replace or preempt congregational support. Congregations are encouraged to provide financial support, as they are able, for seminary education. Priority for the CDC Seminary Scholarship is given to applicants whose congregations are unable to support a student’s seminary expenses.

The amount of the grant is based on funds available.  A maximum of $2500 per year is available for Master’s level programs. A maximum of $1000 per year is available for the AMBS Doctor of Ministry in Leadership program.  Students who are approved for a grant can apply two additional times for a total of three grants.

The grants will be paid to the school where the student is enrolled and applied to the student’s account.

At the end of each school year, grant recipients shall meet with the conference minister and/or a member of the ministerial committee to reflect on their educational experience.

Individuals who are enrolled in another ministry training program at a Mennonite Church USA institution can make requests for support to the conference minister or ministerial committee.  Examples include the Journey Missional Development Program (AMBS), Instituto Bíblico Anabautista (IBA), Seminario Biblico Anabautista Hispano (SEBA), CALL Program at Hesson College.

CDC Scholarship Grant Application

INTRODUCTION

Applicants for the CDC Seminary Scholarship Grant are expected to read and understand the Policy.  Any questions should be directed to the Conference Minister.  Applicants are also expected to clarify with their congregation or place of ministry what funds are available for the program for which the grant is being requested.  Limited funds are available each year so requests will be considered in the order in which they are received.  The application deadline is March 1 with award letters being provided in April.
